Most excellent. Not only wrote the post on my treo, but uploaded the image too. Couple of hacks necessary, going to move to a real keyboard for that.
Back at a keyboard: So here’s what I like and don’t like about u*blog. It’s got a solid looking interface with nice support for the Palm 5-way on my Treo. It’s certainly prettier than any of the other (1, 2, 3) ones I’ve tried. However, it’s got the following gotchas that caused problems:
No proxy support - Ironically, even though the product wasn’t open source, I was able to get it to work with my crazy proxy requirements because of its lax input checking. Simple enter the proxy server (in my case, getmorespeed.t-mobile.com) as the hostname, then enter the full url to your xmlrpc location (with http, etc) instead of just the path to it. u*blog behaves as expected. The only part that I wasn’t sure would behave correctly is the fact that the url is different from the HTTP Host: field. Since it appears to work, it must not cause any problems with the Squid proxy server that’s serving up the requests.
Categories broken - I haven’t finished going through the sniffs I took of the traffic as it was posting, but it looks like u*blog is just entering the wrong category number, even though it’s correctly able to retreive the list from the server. The numbers are off by a consistant amount, so I should be able to figure out which entry on my list corresponds to the “moblog” category even though it’s not labelled as such and always use that.
Templates broken - Saving settings on a particular entry (default category for example) doesn’t appear to be working.
On the other hand, uploading images works super well. Also, the support for custom html tags is excellent. The only gripe I have about that is that since I don’t use graffiti it’s impossible to enter certain characters, like say < and > in the tag editor without a Keyboard menu option. I’ve been able to hack around it but just temporarily using the ( and ) keys and then using Rscedit to manually change the hex codes of those characters in the uBlogTag resource. Nasty hack, but it works.
Of course, now that I’ve tried Postie, I may never go back. Postie not only parses attached images and other files, but will automatically link to them in the post, including creating a thumbnail of the image for the post, and making the full-sized image available via a click. Very slick.
Image uploaded from my phone:

Hi dude,
I was trying to use uBlog on my Treo. With your proxy hack/tip it works great. Thanks! One question, did you manage to get the image uploads to work with the proxy settings. What should I set the Image Archive Path as under Blog Settings > More? Any clues mate?

[...] Vagablog (Free) - Interface doesn’t have a lot of the bells and whistles of some of the other palm blogging programs, but it’s fast and light and I really like being able to post drafts from my palm whenever an idea hits me. Most of my last half dozen posts or so started out as a one or two line summary vagablog post in draft that I then fleshed out the next time I got to a PC. [...]
