I’m off for a week and a half to visit mi hermano en Espana con mi mama y papa. My Spanish has deteriorated to the point where I have a vocab of about 11 words (four of those being verb forms of “to be”), so it’s a good thing Colin’s been there all semester. Not looking forward to the time change, travel, and leaving Jaime behind, but I’m definitely looking forward to hanging out with Colin, relaxing, and seeing the sights. I’m on book 6 of the Wheel of Time (every time a new blasted book comes out, I’ve got to re-read the ENTIRE series, and I just bought book 11 a couple weeks ago), and I’ve <cough> <cough> found the books online in html and converted them for my treo, so all 9 feet of hardback book fits in my pocket. (Aside: for the record, I own at least one copy, often times multiple copies of each of the books in dead tree form, so I have no compunctions about illegally downloading them in a more convienant format, ESPECIALLY when you couldn’t buy them in ebook format if wanted. Stupid publishers are losing my money) So I should be set for reading material for the next couple of weeks (even including the nearly 20 hours I’ll be spending on the plane). Of course, I’ve got a gameboy and mp3 player too, so batteries willing, I’ll have as much or more entertainment as I could want.
Anybody have any recommendations on what to see? We’re flying into Madrid, but I know my brother has at least one or two trips planned to other locales.
Apparently they have something there where you can put yourself in harm’s way and then run for your life. I’m told it’s fairly popular.

I would want to go to the beaches and see if they have cleaned up the oil spilled on the Atlantic coast a few years back. Probably not the first thing most people would want to see, but I am curious about that nonetheless, and I bet that they aren’t getting as many tourists over there if it’s not cleaned up… so they could use the money.
The running of the bulls is in Pamplona. It’s also in the middle of July, so no luck there.
Gibraltar would be neat to see. You could tell everyone that you stood in spain and saw Africa if it’s a clear day when you get there.
