I’ve heard it said from by different authors that the key to becoming a good writer is simple: write. Write frequently and write a lot. Unfortunately, while I’ve lived that out, I think I missed a critical component. I think you’re supposed to try to improve along the way. You’re supposed to actually work at getting better. While on some level I definitely want to write better, I don’t usually make a conscious effort.

Hopefully that will change if I start writing for publication more since that requires a continuous process of improvement. Previous articles I’ve worked on were joint-projects (with me doing more of the testing and very little of the writing), but I just finished my first solo article. I’m proud of it, and it was a lot of work considering the information in the article I could have spouted at any given time in a 15 minute talk. I learned a lot about writing and improving my writing, and I hope to continue the process. So sit in a nice comfy chair and enjoy my first solo article. Or, more likely, you won’t enjoy it because it’ll probably be boring to the non-security folks. But you should read it anyway because we’re all friends here.

I always get a kick out of writing errors in writings about writing and the improvement of writing.
See “while I’ve lived out that out”

Thanks. In the spirit of the article, it’s fixed.

How do you spell ironic again?
