Anybody remember the classic blooper where Bill Gates was demoing new plug-n-play technology with Windows 98 and the machine blue-screened?
I had my own fun little re-enactment today when I was giving a presentation during an Identity Theft seminar on campus. I was extolling the virtues of firefox versus internet explorer when the machine core dumped on me. Unfortunately for the comic effect; it only was on the primary display, and not the video output, but it was still pretty funny. A microsoftie in the audience (I suspect a plant!) commented that “Firefox was all that good, huh?” Of course, much to their chagrin, I pointed out that the entire presentation before that was with firefox, but immediately before the crash, I had loaded IE and brought up its security page to show the difference. Oops. I let the audience draw their own conclusion.
The presentation was being recorded too, so for the really bored, you’ll be able to watch the whole 2 hour presentation (~1 hour each speaker) at your leisure sometime in the near future.
The slides will probably be up at some point, but they’re not really all that interesting. I mainly use slides for speaking points, so they woudn’t be all that useful without more explanation.
Incidentally, I was also interviewed for the local news at the event. The reporter didn’t stay around for my half of the talk, so she had basically no idea what I said, but she got the gist of the first presenter at least. Yet another good reason for a PVR; extracting video of yourself from a newscast.
