I’ve long been a fan of the wikipedia(**) and have seen wikis used in a number of other locations, but until quite recently it’s probably safe to say I never really ‘got’ it. Well, at work yesterday I installed one for us to use internally for note taking. I’m definitely a believer now. I wish I could make it public, but there’s some internal documentation on it, so it’s not a good idea. The best thing I can suggest is to just try it. Kwiki was available via CPAN, so it was ridiculously easy to install (along with all the plugins; a necessity of doing it ‘right’) and be functional in an amazingly short time. You go from nothing to a working wiki you can edit just with:
$ kwiki -new
Tada. You’re done. Lots of fun; go hack on a wiki.
** For the interested (or bored), one of my bookmarklets (look under the toolbar folder, then ‘Marklets’) searches wikipedia in a rather useful way, I think.
Welcome to the club.
