A few weeks back I finally did what I’ve been saying I would for quite some time; set up an office jukebox. After deliberating a little bit on which software to use or whether to write my own, I ended up using room juice, which has worked very well so far.
I’m trying a little social experiment; I’ve allowed open access to the internet, so anyone can queue up music for those of us in the office. Sorry, no streaming is available right now. If you happen to be on campus, feel free to stop on by though and here what’s playing, otherwise please queue up some good music for those of us to listen to. Please be aware that adding repeats of the same song, or tons of one particular style in an attempt to annoy will simply result in adding privelges being revoked.
Of course, since it’s the holidays I immediately used the jukebox to terrorize the office. Everybody knows the Hippo lyrics now. A couple of folks actually like it, which means the thought-virus has stuck and their heads should be a-sploding soon.
So, how do you do this?
My guess was to click on the jukebox link, which brought me to a numatrix.cns site. Then I looked through the various artists, selected one, selected an album, and then selcted a song. Is that all it takes? I have no real way to tell if I properly selected a song or not.
The little frame says –
Now Playing: ( 3:51 remaining )
3:52 Artist–Sing
Time Remaining: 3:51
but the time doesn’t change. Maybe it is because no one is at work…

If no one’s there, the playlist might be paused. I went ahead and logged in and un-paused it, so anybody wandering by the window outside my building at night might hear some music, but the playlist will be otherwise emptied tomorrow for others to add to during the work day.
When it’s playing the time remaining will count down to the next track. Authorized users get a lot more features to play with; volume slider, remove old tracks, skip the currently playing track, stop, start playback, clear the playlist, etc. For obvious reasons I’ve restricted all but add and view for most folks.

Doh, I guess I’m just a “most folks” now. {sniffle}
