So I’ve been steadily giving away invites to that crazy google email thing (not going to say it, the requests are bad enough as it is from the previous post I did). And it’s always nice to help people out when you can and pass along invites. The only problem is that sometimes you end up wasting a lot more time than you planned on it.
For example, the current discussion I’m having on email reads about like this:
I really want a gmail account. Can you pls help me get one by sending me an invite?
Sure; do you have an account besides hotmail I can send it to? Hotmail sometimes puts gmail invites in the spam folder.
EMAILS ME BACK, GETS AN INVITE, ALL’s HAPPY
Or not: continues to email me USING THE OLD HOTMAIL ADDRESS:
Do you kno how to sign in msn using a gmail account?
Huh? (ask a lot more questions about what in the world he’s talking about)
I mean if you want to log in to msn using your gmail account, how do you do that. Mt bro did that but he does not want to tell me.
Uhh, I have no clue what you’re talking about. (ask some more questions to try to understand)
Anybody else make sense of that? I think he either means MSN the website which will work with a hotmail login (passport, .net, whatever they’re calling it these days), but obviously not gmail, MSN chat (same), or MSN the internet service which is even more absurd. I’m totally confused.
He *may* mean that he wants to use his gmail account as his Passport login. For example my MSN Messenger address is brett at themole.yi.org (not at hotmail or msn.com) and I can log in to all MSN passport sites with that addy. That way I don’t actually have to sign up to hotmail.
I’m not entirely sure you can still do this, I signed up for this years ago, when MSN was first around. In fact, just checked and you can still get a passport that way, you just have to sign up at passport.com and not an MSN site.
HTH.

Yes, you have to register your email address with passport.NET. It’ll ask if you have your own email address (or something along those lines). Choose “Yes, I have my own email address,” and type it in where it says Email. =)

This worked!
I used my Gmail address and now have a Passport account. I can finally get rid of that damned Hotmail email account.
FREE at last!
Thanks guys!
