We’re up for another round of inclement weather here in Florida, and I thought I’d celebrate (?) by showing something fun I was playing with. Using xplanet, along with some current cloud maps, I centered a shot of what things currently look like over here. It’s currently updated every three hours and if you ever see the hurricane disappear, it’s because it looks like one of the cloud map sites has some bogus info.
The software is pretty fun, and can run well on windows too if you want a constantly updating background in windows or linux, it’s pretty sweet. There’s also a sweet program called Celestia that looks a bit more powerful and better for opengl graphics for those with a real videocard.
That picuture is awesome. I showed it to Joy and she “oooo,” which is a good noise. We saw a face in the hurricane too, which was sort of spooky.

I use that image every few hours to check on the storms. It looks great.

For the best, most accurate map, use http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ and check out ‘maps and charts’ under Hurricane Ivan. That’s the same site that all the weather repoters get their information from. Jaime’s been turning into a little amateur meteorologist lately. Her favorite part is the detailed ‘Discussion’ links under the hurricane.

I know this might be a little obsessive, but that .jpg generator of yours is so entirely cool, that I salivate at the thought of having it as an active desktop or the main picture of my blog.
