An interesting story on slashdot recently highlighted some of the supposed flaws with ebooks. Most of the article is really and trule pretty retarded. It treats ebooks as if they’re only going to catch on when a dedicated device catches on to support it.

Nevermind the fact that I’ve been happily reading ebooks on palm based pdas for years now, and I’m not the only one. There are many other flaws with the story, but I’ll let Cory sort them out for you.

I’d like to recommend a good ebook I just finished a few minutes ago from a relatively unknown author whom I plan on reading more of now. THIS is what the internet was made for. /me grumbles about retarded corporations who somehow think control==money.

Warchild was described as:

“[a] story of a young boy’s coming of age amid interstellar war […] in the tradition of Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game

And while it was vaguely like Ender’s Game in the sense that it’s about a young boy growing up in a war, it’s pretty different otherwise. Not nearly as much cool fighting, but much more a study of the trauma of one child and his growth thoughout some pretty odd situations and how he must find his place in the world.

Sure, not a brilliantly new theme, but then again, are they ever? Anyway, good read, worth the money, and even if you don’t have a palm pilot, you could always try the PC client. In fact, if anybody wants to buy it, let me know in a comment, and I’ll send you a 10% off coupon from fictionwise for the book. Heck, combine that with the 15% coupon you get for filling out the survey on the main page, and you can get the book for about $4. While I’m not a huge fan of the crazy coupons, discounts, odd micropayment discounts, and the whole micropayment system in general that fictionwise uses, I’m happy with the service the provide (though ereader [formerly known as palm digital media, formerly known as peanut press] is often cheaper, fictionwise does a better job getting independants and non-drm formats which I always like to support)

And now for something completely different, here’s a song that sucks. If it was supposed to be a joke, it might be funny, but apparently it’s not.

So do i need to get a new client or can i just use ereader?

Ereader will work fine. In fact, in this case the ebook reader is required since that’s the only download format offered on that book.
