I’d explain, but do I really need to? Yeah, I’m a copycat. And one with faint sunspots in my vision still. My sunglasses are no where near dark enough for that sort of work. Burning the concrete was so easy that I suspect it was actually something in the concrete or on top of it that was burning more readily. Asphalt obviously goes up quickly and it burns paper and cardboard so easily that you could accidentally start a fire if you’re not covering the sheet when not using it. Fun stuff.
Additional things I’ve burned lately:
CDs (go up like butter)
Mousepad (burnt rubber; yech)
Pennies (got a stand that I can use to focus the lens for a while; does pennies fairly easily)
Quarters (can’t burn through them or melt through them, but they discolor in really cool ways. I now have a lucky golden quarter)

Take a picture of the quarter, that sounds cool.

Out of curiosity, did you buy your own fresnel or use cwilson’s?

My own; mine is a little 8.5″x11″ I picked up at office max. Still does a mighty fine job at the tasks above though. We were trying Chris’ mondo super-sized one, but it was a lot harder since you had to hold it up so high (longer focal point) and it didn’t focus to a point as small. Though it was definitely generating more heat, it was harder to work with. Need to build a frame assembly for his focused on a specific point and you could start tunneling through the concrete…

Why on earth does Office Max carry fresnels?

They are used in overhead projectors and to help people read books…they turn small print into very large print.
