Last weekend Jaime and I were hanging out at Borders for a bit and she came across a cd that she liked. I jotted down the name of the cd and band, and came across the note to myself today.
Using the slightly scary russian mp3 site that I mentioned a while back (I initially got my brother an account as a present, but ended up just getting one account for myself and giving him my username and password, so we’ve been sharing the bucket of downloads), I searched for the cd, and was pleasantly surprised to find it.
It’s a GREAT cd, and I’m glad Jaime mentioned it. Very good mix of contemporary sounds with classic rock. One of the songs reminded me strongly of America, so I pulled up their most recent greatest hits album and downloaded that too. Of course, another song on the cd reminded me of Simon and Garfunkel, so how could I resist but download that as well? 56 songs and about $3 later and I’m utterly content and amazed at how easy it was.
It’s past time the record companies got a clue. Fortunately russia has sane copyright law that has enabled this company to set up what the record companies here are too afraid to here. And you know what? It’s really really nice. I’m using it a lot, and I’d use an american version even if it was two or three times more expensive, because I (like most people) really do want the artists to get money they deserve.
Oh yeah, interestingly enough, there have been no fraudulent transactions on my account since I used my credit card at the russian site. Plus, I think they’ve finally worked out the paypal kinks so you can use that if you’re paranoid.
Wow, I really do love America, I’m so glad I got this cd. Absolute quality.
/me wanders off into the distance singing about the Sandman.
Right now nothing in the world could sound better than Ventura Highway. That one little guitar riff is so pleasantly infectious.

Starsailor - good choice of music
Some quite good UK music, although it’s been flooded quite recently with Coldplay/David Gray/Starsailor a-likes.
At least it’s better than Spice Girls a-likes
