I’m not much of a cook, but I’m certainly willing to try. Since moving to China I’ve cooked a number of things on my own, most of which have turned out at least decent and I’ve only started one oil fire (but boy was it a doozy!). But as a humble man I’m always open to suggestions from those more inclined, and thus I am posing to you this question:

What, besides bagels, is cream cheese good on?

You see, I bought a block of Philadelphia Cream Cheese, one of my favorite foods, yesterday at Metro, but bagels do not seem to exist in China, either freshly made or frozen. I’ve thought about just toasting bread (though that would involve buying a toaster, but I figure I’ll have to eventually so I might as well just invest in one now) and spreading the cream cheese on that, but I thought I’d invite any ideas our loyal readers might have.

So, seriously, what’s good?

My girlfriend claims that it’s great on celery, or mixed into a baked potato. I myself have not tried either, so I can’t tell you for sure - not that an endorsement from two total strangers would convince you more than from just one.

Josh mentioned a recipe for low-carb cheesecake that’s based on cream cheese somehow. I don’t know the recipe, but you could ask him.

Cheesecake! Cream Cheese is like one of the principle ingredients.
You could also put it in sushi, some types of enchiladas, dips, spreads, and quesidillas. Oh, and tiramasu can be made with it too.
Philadelphia Cream Cheese is a Kraft product, so you should definately check their website too, because companies that produce packaged foods nearly always make free “easy” recipes available to add added value to their products. (Sorry, I AM a business major.)

There was a link to their recipes site on the company main page. It’s got a search feature that might be worth a try.

Cakes are no good. No ovens here. I might the celery. I’ll also check out their website, thanks David.

There are no bake cheesecakes, not as good, but still decent.

    According to the girlfriend:

Melba toast, crackers, crumpets, rice crackers, crispbread… basically anything that you would normally put cheese on.

My Mum also recommends in sandwhiches, never been a fan of that though :/

Mix together a block of cream cheese with a jar of salsa. Microwave until gooshy, then eat with tortilla chips. Best. Dip. EVAR.

    Hey John,

Cream Cheese is the spackle of the dairy world. Although you can eat it you can also use it to seal our poorly insulated windows which will save you money on your heating bill and allow you to run those centrifuges longer. Also it works great on sealing holes you put in the walls for whatever reasons (hanging pictures or hiding body parts.) It’s also good on celery, ham, lebanon balogna, and salsa. It is integral to cheesecake and can liven up salads. Be creative. Smear it on baozi and jiaozi. Make some qingcai cream cheese rolls. Smear it all over one of your many lovers body in combination with bluberry or strawberry compote and eat her like a parfait. Hope this helps. Drinks tonight?

Word to the wise: if you’ve not eaten creamy cheesy products (such as, perhaps, cream cheese) in nearly four months and then have a bunch of it on crackers for lunch your bowels will be tremendously displeased and will make their displeasure known in that special way that only they can.

I’m gonna have to second the celery vote; I absolutely love cream cheese on celery, though I don’t eat it on much else.
