I’m just registering my complaints right now. Within the first 10 minutes there were 4.. FOUR (!!!!) turnovers called back that the Gator’s forced. I’m even willing to agree with the Ref’s on one of them, MAYBE two of them, but two were very clearly legitimate turnovers. If the Gators win, it’s because they’re really that much better despite some absolutely atrocious calls, and if they lose, well, it’s kinda hard to keep playing when every single big play you make is called back.

That game broke my heart. Damn ACC refs…

It cost me a RMB20 extra value meal to FSU alum Greg. Damn.

The really sad part is that the calls continued throughout the game. The announcers mentioned that they had never seen a game with so many calls that effected penalties, allowed them, called them back, etc. What he neglected to mention was that every call that over turned a fumble turnover went in favor of the seminoles, and every call that didn’t overturn a fumble went in favor of the seminoles as well, except one call. And believe me, in light of all the other calls that were made, one call in favor of the gators isn’t much..

This is why road games are more likely to earn a team a W than non-road games now. You get to bring your own referees in Interconference play.
I was still pretty happy with that game. If only the ‘Noles hadn’t pulled off that completion on 14 & 4. Though, I would have loved it if Leak could have ran 50 in that final 50-yard touchdown. That would have been sooo huge… sooo huge. That would have made it worth the $125 that someone paid for my ticket, and I like it when my customers are happy. Shoot, that would have made the highlights for the rest of the week.

I finally brought myself to look at some football websites today; it was just too painful previously. Here’s some selected quotes:

bq. The day, however, will be remembered for much more — including a postgame melee at midfield that police used pepper spray to break up, and a series of officials’ calls, ranging from questionable to awful, that will have Gators fans howling for years. [AP]

bq. The crew made at least three questionable calls on fumbles — calling players down when they weren’t or vise versa — and absolutely blew at least two more, including giving Seminoles tailback Leon Washington credit for a fumble recovery near the Florida goal line even though Crowder sprinted out of the pile with the ball.

bq. ACC observer Earnest Benson declined comment on the calls, but said games are reviewed weekly by the league. The ACC’s director of officials probably won’t like what he sees from his guys when he gets this tape, although he certainly will get to watch a great game.

Bah. That’s just disappointing. Sure, they made a great play to clinch the game in the end, but we flat out out-played them the entire game; the only reason it was close was the horrible officiating. And it’s not like those were calls that didn’t matter. Oh well, trying not to be bitter, and looking forward to some Gators doing the stomping next year.

Does anyone have video of this game? If so can you email me at jafre@ufl.edu.
