I miss baseball more than I thought I would. Once the Cardinals’ season was over, I thought that the playoffs would pass my by unnoticed, just a series of box scores to scan idly between classes. That was until both the Cubs and Red Sox (and the Marlins!) made it into their respective league championship series and I was reminded why I love baseball so very much.

It’s all about the history, you know? The Cubs, completely useless beyond September, vying (in October) for their first World Series appearance since 1945 (and their first championship since 1918), having beaten the Giants to get there. The Red Sox, fighting desperately against the Yankee powerhouse (not to mention the curse of the Bambino), trying for their first world championship since 1916. And the Marlins, the scrappy NL wild card winners, beating the Braves handily to advance to the NLCS for the second time in their short history, having won the world championship the last time they made it this far. Oh, and the Yankess, but who cares about the Yankees, right? :)

I know as a good American whose team is out of contention I should be pulling for a Red Sox - Cubs championship but, you know, I hate the Cubs (sorry Dave!). I mean, I hate them like every good Cardinals fan should… it’s a friendly hate, but it’s hate nonetheless. But I’m still pulling for the BoSox, and a Boston - Florida series would be pretty exciting.

Of course I won’t see any of it, but oh well, at least I can listen live thanks to the power of the Internet (”the Internet is much more than a global pornography network”).

I think having the Yankees still in it this far along adds to the series somehow. I can’t put my finger on it, but maybe its because it gives it that slight “just enough” feeling of normalcy.
    Go Florida! Go Boston!

God I hate baseball. I used to be a big fan, but there are so many things messed up about the game and the league that it just isn’t worth watching anymore. Having said that, I wish the Cubs had won.

What was I thinking, hoping that the Cubbies could win _one_ out of 3 games to advance to the WS? Stupid, stupid me.

John, Do you remember me –the Greg Kummery’s chinese student?
I know the baseball is very popular in US.But,as you know, chinese don’t play baseball…
