I’m really sick of being sick. It’s literally been over two weeks now, and I’m still sick. It’s just a cold, and I finally went to the doctor tuesday just to confirm what my health-profession educated wife had been telling me. Yup, just a virus, come back if my snot turns green or it doesn’t go away in another week.
In the mean time, I’m using a small portion of my sick hours I had accumulated at work. I was hoping for a chance to use them up, but for some reason they’re not nearly as gratifying as I would have hoped. Maybe because I sleep for half the day, so what seems like a fun free day at home is really only half that, and then I really should be taking care of chores around the house because Jaime is working. So on a few of my sick days I did laundry.
It’s not a particularly good excuse for slow posting, but it’s all I have, so I’ll use it. caughs all over keyboard Oh yeah, and if it wasn’t obviously enough, if you see me any time soon, keep your distance, this one sucks.
Living in zhongguo (which I believe roughly translates into “The Land of the Neverending Upper Respiratory Infection”), I feel your pain. Amazingly this is the first time I’ve really been sick, but it’s been fun. I totally lost my voice in the middle of one of my classes this morning. I just told them to go home… they think I’m a slack-ass because I let them out 55 minutes early, but screw it. How am I supposed to teach oral English when I can’t talk?

Jordan — I was sick for a few months, and it turned out that I had mold poisoning. None of the MDs properly diagnosed me, so I had to rely on what they did think, what my Dad thought, and the Internet. The mold came from the HVAC system in my house. Now I have a Sharper Image Ionic breeze, and it is placed under my air vent. Voilà!
John — Play a DVD with great dialog on your laptop? I don’t know if this would be helpful at all, because I have so little info about your situation, but I am a compulsive donor of unsolicited advice so.. I give.

I feel your pain, John. When you grow up in the land of clean air and blue skies and movie to an area of pollution clouds and yellow-brown skies your health suffers. I imagine China’s even worse than LA in the air quality front.
Jordan, have you considered getting some Gan Kan? Amantadine Hydrochloride. Antiviral agent that prevents influenza from entering healthy cells.

Eric: I tried to look up the Gan Kan but couldn’t find info about it online. Is it a chinese “herbal”?

In case anybody cares it’s nearly a week after my first doctors appointment and I visited her again. This time she gave me some antibiotics and said if that doesn’t work to call her. The most fun party about it now is that I’ve pulled a muscle in my side that aches horribly every time I cough. It aches when I do about anything else that puts pressure there as well, so in some ways I’m worse off than when I first got sick. I’m definitely ready to be done with this.
My mental state is totally deteriorated; I’m in that half-alert state where I don’t quite follow what’s going on very quickly. The kind of mood that I got of reading done in when I was in high school and younger because I wasn’t good for much of anything else.

You should really check out the mold situation. Sounds familiar
