Found this little blurb while perusing that’s Shanghai, a free monthly culture and events magazine for, you guessed it, Shanghai. I can’t find an online link for it, but if I do I’ll post it.

Athens’ Alternative Olympic Games

Beijing Olympic organisers, take note. According to leading Chinese Internet portal Tom.com, Athens officials have issued 30 new brothel licences in the run up to the city’s hosting of the 2004 Summer Olympics. While several countries — Finland, Sweden and Lithuania, among others — have lodged complains about this “distraction” to the athletes, the Greek vice minister had no comment — nor any suggestions for how to judge a perfect ten in this unsanctioned event.

I mean, really, it does make sense. And by their governments’ official complaints, shall we presume that Finnish, Swedish and Lithuanian athletes are going to be all over those Greek whores?

Man, I’m wondering about all the quotes from media in china you’re seeing there. Are the censors not paying attention or are they really just relaxing that much?

Speaking of That’sShanghai, you gonna see 2046? That looks fun.

I doubt the censors much bother themselves with free, expat-published and consumed magazines. They are all just about culture and entertainment in whatever city (the link you gave for ‘2046,’ by the way, is the for that’s Guangzhou, not that’s Shanghai).

I would like to see the movie, if it has English subtitles.

Wow, what a country. Brothels are good, but computer games are banned :-)
