The rumors of our death have been greatly exaggerated. August is, as always, a slow month — too fucking hot to do anything outside, and too boring to do anything inside. Not wanting to leave my loving fans hanging, though, I’ll fill you in on what I’ve done over the last couple weeks:
- Sorting underwear. You see, I have a whole lot of underwear, but I don’t need all of it. In fact, I don’t need much of it at all, thanks to two packs of fresh underwear that currently reside in my luggage. Not wanting to throw it all out, I’ve gone through all my old underwear. Some of them — a lot of them in fact — have more than the three holes that underwear are supposed to have.
- Sorting books. I mentioned this before, and it hasn’t gotten any easier. I have been able to reduce my “must save” books to four boxes, which are now tightly taped and sitting the corner of my room. The rest, I am sad to say, may well be discarded when my parents move in a couple years.
- Driving. I love to drive, and I’m going to miss it. I have been volunteering to drive anywhere and everywhere that I can, just to get a few more miles in before leaving.
- Packing. It sucks, hard. But it’s mostly done.
- Burning. I have a ton of MP3s (legal ones, at that, ripped from my own CD collection), currently stored on my brother’s 40GB hard drive. My laptop’s anemic storage capabilities can’t quite meet the cut, so I’ve been burning them on CDR after CDR.
- Sleeping. Being unemployed has seriously helped me catch up on lost sleep. It’s nice.
So there you have it. That’s what I’ve been doing. See, I told you it was boring, but do not despair! Travel commentary will be coming in less than a week.
I must admit though, lately I’ve felt close to dead. I’m putting in nearly Rehmeyer-ish hours of work, and we’ve still got so many machines attacking with either virii or worms. It’s ridiculous how inept some administrators must be.
