Among all the reasons I’m ready to leave Florida when Jaime graduates, the weather is probably at the top of the pile. I know when Canadians and German tourists think of Florida, they’re thinking of a tropical, sunny paradise. Until they visit in the summer. Then they quickly realize it’s a hot, muggy, wet swamp infested with only the most unpleasant of wildlife. Unless you’re in a large tourist area, in which case it’s a hot, muggy, wet, crowded paved and cemented area with the most unpleasant of tourists. So, like I said, I’m read to be gone. Now I’ve just got to put up with two years worth of weather like the lovely bit we’re experiencing this week.
Most people forget that our tourist season is winter, when it’s dry and not quite so humid and a little bit cooler. I pity the fools that come here in the summer, expecting something nice.

I think anywhere you go there’s a good chance you’ll find something wrong with the weather, you just have to decided what annoys you the most.

After all these years in Florida, I think he’s just looking for _different_ disagreeable weather. I know I am
Although honestly I don’t mind hot, rainy summers when in January poor bastards up north have to dig their cars out of the snow and we’re having highs in the 70s.

I really like the weather; sure in the summer you have 100% chance of rain for about 30 minutes right at 4:00. But seriously, only Floridians understand this–but its a tradeoff. In order to keep our ecosystem in balance, we have to have a lot of rain at some point during the year. We think of Hawaii being tropical, yet you know how much rain they receive so their lush vegetation can thrive. Sure, their driest spot averages 5.7″/year, but they are also home to the “wettest spot on earth,” Mt. Wai’ale’ale on Kaua’i, averaging 468 inches per year. And sorry to say, this isnt true for just tropical locations; Florida has less rainfall/year than Alabama, Alaksa, Lousiana, Mississippi, and South Carolina (at least in 1988 which was an infamously dry year). I love the state and dont necessarily wish to leave. Unforutantely, I’m the only one in the family who is going to college 1000+ miles away. Yippee…

I think that if you want to surround yourself with beauty you’re still going to have to make a tradeoff somewhere. This probably applies to more than just location…
PS — Thanks all you previous posters for saying what I would have.

Or, you can just become rich and fly to where the weather is nice at the moment. That would nice…

Exactly, the tradeoff there is the constant travel and the money that is required.

Any particular place?

When we’re done here, we’re thinking anything from Colorado, the Carolinas, Maryland, Texas, and lots of other places. So basically, we don’t know.

Move to China. It’s what all the cool kids are doing.

Colorado or Kansas would be good choices as far as decent weather, decent places to live, and still relatively inexpensive within the states.

you yankee wining bitches… it’s really sad. you spend your miserable lives bitching about everything. instead of moving here or there, just shoot your dumb ass in the head; more natural resources for the rest of us.

Hmm, wining as is in we drink too much wine? Maybe you meant winning as in the civil war? Or maybe you just meant whining, as in, stop whining and get an education.
Cripes people, I mean really, it was a comment on the freaking weather. Get over it.

Moving from UpstateNY to Titusville, FL was a dream come true. For four years. You put up with the nasty weather just as you do any where else. I’d rather put up with a litle heat and humidity for a couple months than six months of freezing cold snowy winter anyday. We had to move to Texas last February thanks NASA “management” and I’ll tell ya, if you hate Florida you’ll LOVE Texas. I’m willing to swap places.
One more thing. So many folks lump all of Florida under the same weather view. My native born Florida friend tells me Central FL is more temporate than Southern Fl. This is true. I was truly shocked to learn some of the trees thereabouts lose their leaves in the winter and it can get quite nippy in December/ Janurary. But all around. I’d rather live in Central, coastal Florida, than anywhere else in the world.

I must say that I am not a native Floridian (I am from the midwest where people are generally polite) but I do dislike most of the people down here from the east coast. They are superficial, outspoken, and rude. Also, most of the native Floridians have an attitude that is quite unappealing. Their attitude is, “Put up with our redneck ways or move!” Florida has little to offer to anyone except to those that are retirees, spring breakers, or tourists. It is a shame that the cost of living is going way up there because most of the jobs pay very little. Unemployment is quite high and the only jobs are in home construction, service industry, and health care. It is a state that is not friendly to the working man looking to make a decent wage. I wouldn’t wish Florida upon my worst enemy. It is a shame that the state that has the nicest weather is such a cesspool to live in.

I plan on moving to Florida because anywhere is better than the weather in Syracuse, NY. It is April and still snowing. There is no sunshine- even on nice days the sky is grey. Winter last for about 6 months and it is miserable- nothing shuts down you still have to go to work and school, but you can’t see hwere you’re going because of all the snow. But people still buy their children SUV’s and send them here for college.
