I’ve spent most of the day, and most of the previous dozen or so days, wandering through photoblogs.org, staring at the world through other people’s lenses. It helps to take me away, and makes me feel like I’m somewhere I’m not. I like that feeling — especially now, sitting in an office separated from the beautiful (if stifling) Florida summer by a half-inch of tinted glass, feeling good Chinese food go bad in the depths of my digestive track. I particularly enjoy French sites, because somewhere along the line I learned to read a little bit of French and getting to practice makes me feel a lot more sophisticated than I really am.
I think that, after Chinese, I’d like to really learn French.
Most of the morning was spent making changes to user interfaces. People are stupid and I don’t particularly like designing for them. I enjoy writing software that is destined for solely personal use. I could never be a developer, because I’m not a team player. Because if you don’t like the way something works then it’s your problem, not mine (but if you’d like to hire me, I’ll work cheap). I was supposed to finish those changes this afternoon, but an oversized plate of gongbao jiding has sapped me of my strength.
Three months from today classes start at Zhejiang University City College. I’m going to be teaching some of them. Crazy, no? It looks like I’m going to take Philippine Air from Los Angeles to Shanghai via Honolulu and Manilla. For $650 round trip, it’s hard to beat.
This emo post has got to end.
This post wasn’t the slightest bit “emo”. In fact, it was about as emo as this comment is electroclash.

Emo? Electroclash? What do these things mean…
Left by David M on June 4th, 2003
Ah, but it was emo by association. You see, it was written in the “14-year old girl who is all pissy about her life” weblogging style, and who else is more likely to listen to crappy emo bands? See, it all comes together (not really, totally pulling this association out of my ass, but hey, give me the benefit of the doubt!).
Or maybe I decided to hijack the word “emotional” too, and use it for my own nefarious purposes! Yes, that’s it!
Actually, I think that this post was more emocore than anything…

I wanted to add an electroclash comment but I have no idea what that would actually be like.
I assume it would be in some form of l33t speak.

when you’re emo, there’s no calendar. there are no dates, there’s no day,
there’s no night, there’s no seconds, there’s no minutes, there’s nothing.
you’re just existing in this cold, murky, ever-heavy atmosphere, like they put
you inside a vial of mercury.
