A friend was playing a CD during a recent car ride that he had just purchased at a large concert from an instrumental band and I thought it was excellent. He happened to rip his CD collection and send it to my machine at work for backup purposes, and I’m listening to the album right now. It’s amazing. Definitely going to be purchasing this CD. It’s a new kind of music for me, definitely stretching my boundaries of listening, but that’s a good thing. I have to encourage buying the cd if you happen to sample some of the audio and like it as the entire cd is one instrumental story that goes along with a bunch of really cool artwork in the jacket. The band’s name is Unwed Sailor, and the cd in question was The Marionette and the Music Box. Probably the first true ‘concept’ album I own, though OLP’s Spiritual Machines was close.
I back Jordan up on this CD, it’s different, but truly awesome.

Stumbled upon the photlog of one of Unwed Sailor’s band members, Nicholas Tse Jo-Yum, today and went “holy crap, I’ve heard of them before.” Check it out: http://www.nostalgic.org/

I heard one of the songs from “The Marionette and the Music Box” yesterday on a college radio show in San Francisco. I was scanning the stations and this quite little song made me stop. It built up a little and just flowed, making me smile. Quite little songs don’t usually spark my interest, but after looking more into Unwed Sailor, this album will be on my shelf in in my CD player very soon.
